How to take a screenshot on Chromebook?


You can use the Show Windows button () to take the screenshot on a Chromebook. In this article, you will learn about two different ways of taking Chromebook screenshots.

  1. Taking a Screenshot of the Entire Screen
  2. Taking a Screenshot of a Specific Region.

1. Take a Screenshot of the Entire Screen

First, you need to locate the Show Windows key on your Chromebook keyboard. It is generally located at the top key rows and looks like a rectangle followed by two vertical lines.

Now, to take a screenshot of the entire screen, press “Ctrl” and “Show windows” simultaneously. 

2. Take a Screenshot of a Specific Region

You can also capture a specific region of your screen. For this, press “Ctrl”, “Shift”, and “Show windows” together. You will see a prompt with different options, as shown below.

Now, drag through the area you want to capture using your mouse and click the capture button.

Using the Screen Capture Tool

You can also take the screenshot without using the Show Windows key. For this, you have to use the Screen Capture tool. It is a built-in tool that’s available within your Chromebook.

To access the tool, open the menu from the lower-right corner.

There, you can see the Screen Capture tool. Click on it, and you will receive a prompt like before.


1. Where do screenshots go on Chromebooks?

By default, screenshots are saved inside the Downloads folder of your Chromebook. However, you can also change the saved location for your screenshots. 

To change the saved location,

  • Click on the settings icon on your screenshot prompt.
  • Under Save to, click on Select Folder.
  • Choose the folder where you want to save your screenshots.

2. How to take screenshots on a Chromebook without the Windows key?

You can use the Screen Capture tool present in the Menu to take screenshots without the windows key.
